Our mission is to carry Broderick Ade Hogue’s legacy forward by supporting the areas of his life and causes he was so passionate about. This will include supporting the BIPOC community, underprivileged youth, the educational pursuits of fellow creatives, and the cycling and running communities.
In honor of Broderick Adé Hogue and to carry forward his legacy, his UNC Charlotte family, alumni, faculty, and friends created a scholarship in his name. This award was established by faculty members David Brodeur and Bobby Campbell from the Department of Art & Art History. Their hope is that his legacy will serve as an example and to support students from communities underrepresented in higher education.
In Adé’s honor, Type Directors Club rechristened its Superscript Scholarship as the Adé Hogue Scholarship. Sponsored by Monotype, the $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding BIPOC student currently in their junior year of college or first year of graduate or postgraduate school who demonstrates exceptional talent and promise in the creation of letterforms.
Hosted at Broderick’s alma mater UNC Charlotte in the summer of 2022, this exhibit showcased the evolution of his work and creative process across a range of media, from early sketchbooks to national advertising campaigns to self-initiated social justice works.
The “Ade to Remember” annual event, known for its motto of “morning miles and evening smiles,” is a special occasion established to honor and celebrate Broderick’s life and passions. This event serves as a unifying force for the Chicago cycling community, bringing together individuals who share Broderick’s love for cycling and his desire to connect with friends and family. The event is made possible through the collaborative efforts of Rapha Chicago, Specialized Chicago, and Broderick’s close friends within the cycling community, who collectively create a day filled with morning rides and joyful camaraderie.
Finding Go is a film created by Converge Media with the support of Alaska Airlines documenting the life and legacy of Broderick Adé Hogue. One of Hogue’s crowning achievements was creating the lettering for Our Commitment, a specially-designed 737 commissioned by Alaska Airlines in partnership with the United Negro College Fund to showcase their commitment to racial equality and education. This film chronicles his life from his early years in Asheville, NC, his college days at UNC Charlotte, and his eventual move to Chicago as his development into one of the best hand-letters of his generation.
